É tempo de olhar para o horizonte e perceber que a caminhada esperançosa nos mostrará que novos mundos são possíveis. E a educação é chave nesse caminho. Não podemos apenas problematizar, se inquietar, reclamar sem se movimentar. E, é por isso, que nós do Projeto Construindo Saber estamos há 12 anos em movimento.
Durante todo esse tempo estamos construindo a Escola Democrática com a cidade de Niterói (RJ). Estivemos em diferentes bairros nos reunindo com as pessoas, escutando, estudando, pesquisando, nos inspirando e sonhando coletivamente com uma escola que rompesse os muros físicos e simbólicos, valorizando a construção coletiva, as potencialidades, desejos, curiosidades e inquietações de cada estudante e educador.
Nossa escola é sem fins lucrativos e tem uma proposta pedagógica bem diferente:
- as séries e as turmas são substituídas por agrupamentos de diferentes idades com interesses comuns, sempre respeitando as especificidades de cada faixa etária.
- as provas são substituídas por uma extensa avaliação processual através do portfólio que cada estudante vai desenvolvendo no dia a dia da escola.
- as aulas expositivas são substituídas por roteiros de estudos, projetos e oficinas, tudo numa educação que se faz na relação entre os sujeitos.
- uma escola que tem como princípio combater todas as formas de preconceito em nossa sociedade.
- uma escola que estará sempre por fazer, pois nunca estará pronta.
Essa é a Escola Democrática de Niterói e o nosso objetivo é arrecadar pelo menos R$ 35.000,00 para reformar o nosso espaço físico, situado em Piratininga, com o intuito de ampliarmos e garantirmos uma prática inclusiva, disponibilizando recursos para superar qualquer barreira de aprendizado e socialização e também criarmos espaços pedagógicos mais potentes, como sala de produção audiovisual, música e teatro, uma ampla biblioteca, um ateliê de artes e um laboratório de ciências da natureza e suas tecnologias, além de uma nova cozinha/refeitório.
Nossa campanha é TUDO ou NADA, ou conseguimos arrecadar todo o valor necessário para tirar o projeto do papel ou não tocamos em um centavo sequer do que foi arrecado - e o valor doado volta para a sua conta bancária. Dessa forma, você não corre o risco de investir em um projeto que só vai acontecer pela metade.

R$ 35.000 - Construção das Rampas de acesso na escola, finalização da Entrada, da Cozinha, Refeitório e Banheiros!
Como o prédio que estamos reformando para a escola é a antiga casa da família de dois dos nossos educadores, são necessárias muitas reformas para deixá-la apta não só para atender a determinados parâmetros legais, como "cozinha fora da estrutura predial central" como também algumas das diversas necessidades de uma comunidade ampla e inclusiva.
R$ 45.000 - Garantir reformas secundárias como Pintura, Reparos no Telhado e na Fachada da Escola Democrática.
Aqui garantimos que algumas das questões práticas e estéticas da Escola não sejam postergadas e já garantam à toda nossa comunidade um lugar mais agradável de se estar. Poderemos com esse dinheiro criar uma personalidade mais consistente para o nosso espaço e evitar alguns problemas como goteiras, a instalação de mais tomadas, lâmpadas e o deslocamento de algumas paredes, portas, janelas e saídas de água.
R$ 55.000 - Aperfeiçoar nossas salas, adquirir e instalar dispositivos específicos para cada uma delas.
Nossas salas são adaptáveis às atividades que nelas ocorrem. Numa hora podemos estar sentados debatendo certo tema, em outra de pé com óculos e aventais desvendando os mistérios da vida microscópica. (O que seria muito dificil sem um microscópio, por exemplo)
Ou então, num momento estarmos dançando de frente para um espelho, em outro sentados assistindo a um filme. (Mas e se nosso espelho não existisse?)
Ou então num computador aprendendo a usar esta ferramenta, seja para pesquisar coisas na internet, aprender a digitar ou até editar vídeos! (Mas imagine se este computador demorasse 10 minutos só para abrir uma foto...)
E é claro que R$ 55.000 é apenas uma meta, e quanto mais arrecadarmos mais coisas poderemos agregar à nossa Escola!

Realização: 1° semestre de 2020 em um sábado na Escola Democrática de Niterói (RJ) com data e horário ainda a combinar.

Com os pés fincados na América Latina, buscaremos apresentar o campo teórico da Educação Democrática através das interfaces entre a Educação Popular Freireana e as Pedagogias Decoloniais, para então compartilhar o que estamos construindo enquanto uma experiência Latino-Americanas em Educação Democrática. Nesse momento, chamaremos os referenciais teóricos de Gert Biesta, Paulo Freire, Bell Hooks e Catherine Walsh para o diálogo. Mas não ficaremos apenas na teoria. Analisaremos duas escolas Democráticas parceiras: a de Huamachuco (Peru) e a de Niterói (Brasil), buscando entender como cada um desses projetos aterrissou as concepções de Educação Democrática em seus territórios, sempre atentos aos limites e às potencialidades desses projetos.
O curso será realizado a partir de abril de 2020 na Escola Democrática de Niterói (RJ) no endereço: rua doutor Walter madeira, 01, Cafubá, Piratininga.

Curso Amã – (des)formação docente
Convidamos a educadores e educadoras de todos os níveis de ensino, atuantes ou não, para conhecer e viver uma proposta de uma imersão prática de desconstrução docente. Como dizia Paulo Freire: ““Não importa com que faixa etária trabalhe o educador ou educadora. O nosso é um trabalho realizado com gente, miúda, jovem ou adulta, mas gente em permanente processo de busca. Gente formando-se, mudando, crescendo, reorientando-se, melhorando...” Diante disso, este curso é destinado à qualquer educador que tenha interesse em transformar sua prática docente através de uma (re)construção coletiva e reflexiva.
O curso será realizado a partir de março em Niterói, local ainda indefinido, com 10 encontros presenciais durante o 1º semestre de 2020.

It is time to look to the horizon and understand that the path towards it is promising and can show us the possibility of new worlds. Education is key in this journey. It’s simply not enough only to complain, discuss and be outraged with the lack of real movement. That is why the Projeto Construindo o Saber (Building Knowledge Project) has been taking concrete action for the last 12 years.
During this time, we’ve been laying the foundations for a democratic school in the city of Niterói (Rio de Janeiro). We’ve been to different neighborhoods and talked to many who share our goals. Together with these people we have researched, become inspired and together come to dream of a school that breaks physical and symbolic walls, a school which values collective construction as well as the potential, wishes, curiosities and concerns of both student and educator alike.
Our school is non-profit and approaches education in a very different way:
- Grades and classes will be replaced by groupings of different ages and common interests, while always respecting the specific needs of each individual at every stage of their development.
- Exams will be replaced by an extensive evaluation which takes into account the entire process of learning. These evaluations will be based on a portfolio of experiences that each student will gradually create on a daily basis.
- Normal classes will be replaced by projects, workshops and material intended for autonomous and independent learning. All of this is centered around a concept of education which is defined by interpersonal relationships.
- Fighting all forms of prejudice in our society is a fundamental principle of the school.
A school which will constantly be evolving, as we will never be able to say that it’s finished or beyond improvement.
This is the Democratic School of Niterói, and our goal is to raise at least R$ 35.000,00 (approx. 9.000,00 - USD) so that we can build a new physical space, one which assures inclusion, making it possible to overcome any barrier, educational or social. This investment will also help set up more effective educational spaces, including: a production room for multimedia content; a theater hall; a music studio; a large library; a science lab; and a new kitchen.
Our fundraising campaign is run on an ALL or NOTHING system, which means that we if we are unable to achieve the amount necessary to make this project become a reality, we won’t keep a penny of your money – and it will be returned in full to your bank account. This way it’s impossible to invest in a failed or only partially completed project.
With your help, we can achieve one of these three goals:
- Goal 1 (R$ 35.000,00): Construction of access ramps, finishing the entrance, the kitchen/lunchroom and the toilets.
The house we are renovating for the school used to be the home of two educators who are part of this project. That is why so many changes are necessary, in order to follow certain legal standards as “having a kitchen outside of the central building”, while respecting the various needs of a broad and inclusive community.
- Goal 2 (R$ 45.000,00): Secondary repairs, such as painting, fixing the roof and renewing the facade of the Democratic School.
By achieving this goal we can solve some of the practical and aesthetic issues of the school, making sure that our community will have a safe and comfortable place to be at. With this amount of money we can create a more solid identity for our school, avoiding persistent structural problems such as leaks in the roof. We would also be able to set up more hubs, improve the lighting, and repair the structure of walls, doors, windows and the general water outlet.
- Goal 3 (R$ 55.000,00): Improvement of our rooms, acquiring and installing specific devices for each space.
Our rooms adapt to the activities that happen in them. If we are now debating a certain subject, we can suddenly wear our lab coats and start unraveling the mysteries of the microscopic universe. (which would be fairly hard without a microscope).
Or maybe we could be dancing in front of a mirror, and the sit watching a movie! (But what if we have no mirror?)
We could also learn how to use a specific tool of a computer, to search content online, to learn how to type and write or even editing videos! (But imagine if this computer took 10 minutes to open a single file…)
Of course R$ 55.000,00 is just a goal: the more money this campaign raises, the better we can equip our school!

Course – Learning with games
In this course we will learn and discuss the different perspectives and methodologies on the usage of virtual and board games in educational processes. Exploring both practice and theory, each participant will have the opportunity to experience and to reflect upon the numerous possibilities of activities with games, debating key concepts of game-design and analyzing good and bad examples of the “Gamification”. We will also get to know many different modern games and their characteristics. Our purpose is promoting reflection and new experiences both for those who still have no contact with this universe, as well as people who are already immersed in the game world, developing their own concepts and contributing with their ideas.
Where and When? The course will take place in the Democratic School of Niterói (Rio de Janeiro), in the first semester of 2020 (the exact date and time is yet to be defined.)

Course – Democratic Education
Focused on the Latin American context, we will discuss the broad spectrum of theories regarding the concept of Democratic Education, debating the connection between the popular education from Paulo Freire and the modern decolonialist perspective. We’ll then show what and how we are making a Latin American Democratic School. At this point we’ll base our dialogue on various theories form many scholars, such as Gert Biesta, Paulo Freire, Bell Hooks and Catherine Walsh. We will also analyze two real experiences, both partner schools: the Democratic Schools of Huamachuco (Peru) and Niterói (Brazil). Together we will try to understand how these projects brought the concept of Democratic Education to the territories where they are located, always having their limitations and potential in mind.

Course: Amã – (de)construction of teachers.
We invite all educators, still active or not, who teach any kind of classes (from primary school to university), to take part in a collective rethinking of their own educational process to become an educator. As Paulo Freire once said: “It doesn't matter the age group an educator works with. Our work is done with people: small, young or old, but always with people in a permanent process of searching. People who change, grow, re-orientate and seek to improve themselves.” This course is meant for all educators who are willing to take part in a collective and reflexive (re)construction.
